On Wednesday night, 25th July 2012, as part of Skibbereen Arts Festival, we hosted an Artist’s Talk by Jennifer Baumeister. Jennifer Baumeister is a Berliner. She is a multidisciplinary and conceptual artist and film-maker, who has studied fine art, painting, sculpture, and even Celtic Studies!
She has exhibited widely, from Berlin to Belfast and has won many awards and bursaries for her work. We first met Jennifer when we lived on the Great Blasket Island and have stayed in touch and followed her career with interest and delight.
An interested crowd attended and were fascinated by her illustrated talk through her diverse catalogue of high-quality work. She covered her clever and thought-provoking, often political in every sense, installations; her fine and painterly oil paintings; her powerful print work; talked about influences, inspiration and technical and logistical problems, answering a broad range of questions from the lively and engaged audience.
