News of what's happening in Working Artist Studios

Putting up a sculpture on the outside of our building

Here's a pic of Marie and Ian installing one of Ian's sculptures on the outside of the building.

As you can see Marie is poised to catch Ian should he fall.

Other important work on the day was to put up our Christmas decorations and lights. Our building now looks very twinkly especially at night of course.

On Christmas Eve, all day we'll be having mince pies and coffee for all our visitors, so call in and get yours!

Friends of Working Artist Studios - rehanging our Galleries celebration evening

A great evening at Working Artist Studios
We had a wonderful evening on Friday 28th November with friends and guests spending an evening of getting together and celebration of the rehanging of our three Galleries.

Paul O'Colmain and Liam Kenneally
Superb live music was provided by Paul O’Colmain and Liam Kenneally who played selections from their new CD due to be launched early Spring 2009. The sound was crystal clear throughout the building without being overpowering, due to an amazing compact new sound system used by both musicians. (The guy behind the band sure seemed excited by it all!).

On the same night we also joined in the celebrations of the opening of The Riverside Cafe directly opposite us.

(A big thank you from the Group to the new Riverside Cafe for your great hospitality on the night).

Check out Paul’s site www.paulocolmain.com music, poems, wood engravings and more.

Marie Cullen's work goes up today in new Riverside Cafe

There's a wonderful new Cafe - Restaurant opening directly opposite us in 6 North Street Skibbereen as from tomorrow (Thursday 27th November 2008).

It's called the Riverside Cafe and we'll have some pics to show you of Marie's work on display there very soon.

Welcome to our 'new' member Ian McNinch and renewing our Galleries

So after approximately four years with the same group of artists, at the beginning of this month we had three members leave and a new member, Ian McNinch, join our group. Since Ian was one of the founding members of the group around seven years ago, rejoining would be a more accurate word to use. In his artistic pursuits Ian is best known for his drawings and especially his marvellous, unique sculptures made from found objects. We are now delighted to have a great balance of paintings, drawings, fine art prints and now sculpture on display in our premises. A feature of Ian's work is, all can be displayed indoors but some of Ian's sculptures look stunning outdoors and are designed to age gracefully in all weathers.

You can read some more about Ian here. There will be a Gallery of his work here on our web site soon. Better still come along and see his unique sculptures on display.

A reminder that our Galleries and Studios are open to the public and that means you. You are most welcome to come along and visit us.

It's been a busy time rehanging and tidying up the Studios and Galleries, including fixing our large banner sign outside, which had become partially loose during a storm, damaging some windows on the first floor. Lots of developments at the moment - exciting times!
