Eileen Sheehan Poetry reading to celebrate Imbolc/St. Brigid’s Day/Spring Jan 30th 2015

Poetry:  Eileen Sheehan  Fri. 30 Jan 2015

For our annual Celebration of Imbolc/ St.Brigid’s Day/First of Spring we were delighted, this year, to welcome the wonderful Eileen Sheehan.

Eileen Sheehan

We couldn’t have picked a more appropriate poet to celebrate the arrival of Spring, the invoking of Brigid and Danú, announcing Imbolc, than Eileen Sheehan. Although much of her poetry is based in her home place, in every sense, they are truly universal. Rich with earthy rhythms and allusion, deeply lyrical and beautifully crafted, she spoke of love and death, passion, children and life with great humour and empathy. It was a master class of presentation, Eileen had us in the palm of her hand: we laughed, we cried. We can’t wait for next time!

Incidental music was provided by house band, The Sean Gnóstics and as usual, we had a lively and talented crowd for the open (no-)mic session afterwards, music and poetry. Mile buiochas d’achan duine a tháinig agus go mórmhór a léamh nó a chan. Thank you to all who came and especially to those who contributed songs and poems, including, Lothar Luken, Breeda Murphy, Jamie McCarthy Fisher, Venus Crow, Isobel Baldwin, Miranda McCarthy Fisher, Tim Abbott, Simon and Alex Lockwood, Tony on clarinet and more!
